How to Play Spades
Bid your tricks with a partner. Spades always trump.
Teams
4 players, partners across the table. Spades are always trump.
Bidding
Everyone bids the tricks they think they will take. Your team's bids add up to its contract. Nil (0) is a bet you take no tricks at all.
Play
Follow suit if you can; otherwise play anything, including a spade to trump. Spades can't be led until one has been played.
Scoring
Make your contract: 10 a trick bid, plus 1 for each extra trick (a "bag"). Every 10 bags costs 100. Miss it: lose 10 a trick bid. Nil: +100 if made, -100 if not.
